Life insurance is a contract between you and an insurance company. Essentially, in exchange for your premium payments, the insurance company will pay a lump sum known as a death benefit to your beneficiaries after your death. Your beneficiaries can use the money for whatever purpose they choose. This insurance is recommended when, for example, taking out a mortgage.
Health or medical insurance covers the whole or a part of medical expenses. It is mandatory if you work in The Netherlands.
Liability insurance helps cover medical and legal fees if you're held legally responsible for someone else's injury or damage to someone else's property. This is commonly used in The Netherlands and also required by some landlords.
With the right coverage, your car is insured against damage suffered due to theft and break-ins, damage to third parties, or in other situations. In the Netherlands, car liability insurance is mandatory.
Homeowners insurance covers losses and damages to your house and assets in the home. Recommended for homeowners but also often required by mortgage lenders.
Home contents insurance covers your possessions against fire, theft, and other risks, such as accidental damage. Also recommended for renters.
Travel insurance covers different risks while travelling. It covers medical expenses, lost luggage, flight cancellations, and other losses that a traveller can incur while travelling.
